For real money challenges a registration fee will be charged in order to compete in the challenge. The challenge registration fee will include an entry fee which goes toward the prize pool and a participation fee which will be held by SportsGeek for providing the challenge. These fees will be clearly shown on the individual challenge pages as well as the challenge and individual sport homepages in an entry fee + participation fee format (Ex. $10+1). There is no limit to the number of times an accountholder can enter a challenge as long as each subsequent entry is unique from all previous entries to that particular challenge for the accountholder.
Registration will be available weekly at 12PM ET Wednesday. The deadline for registration is 1PM ET Sunday. Any team not registered before the deadline will not be considered an entrant and will not be eligible to compete in the challenge or win prizes. In the event there is one or more early games (any game that starts before 1PM ET Sunday) any player participating in those early games will not be eligible to be selected to a team after the official start time of the game they are scheduled to participate in. Registration will, however, continue up until the 1PM ET deadline.
If for any reason an accountholder wished to unregister a team from a challenge it can be done anytime up until the earlier of either the 1PM ET Sunday registration deadline or the official start time of any game being participated in by any member of the unregistering team. If a team is validly unregistered the entire registration fee will be credited back to the user's account. The entry fee amount will also be deducted from the prize pool at all times up until the 12:55PM ET cut-off.
In order to fully comply with the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 the SportsGeek football challenges cannot base payouts on the number of entrants to a challenge or on the amount of any fees paid by those entrants. The number of entrants to a challenge is determined at the registration deadline when no more teams can be registered or unregistered. To accomodate this law, the prize pool will be stopped at 12:55PM ET Sunday. After the prize pool is stopped teams can continue to register until the 1PM ET Sunday registration deadline but the entry fee will not be added to the prize pool. Likewise, teams may still unregister until the 1PM ET Sunday deadline without the amount of their refunded entry fee being deducted from the prize pool. Once the prize pool is finalized at 12:55PM ET Sunday the exact payouts will be shown on the challenge homepage as determined by the prize structure.
Official Rules for Free Football Challenges
The free football challenges have the same rules as the real money challenges with the exception of the entry fee. Free challenges cost nothing to compete in and offer a prize pool of two GeekPoints for every team entered. Free live scoring and statistics are still available during free challenges even though no fee is charged.
