Please refer to our Challenges section for a list of challenges that are available to enter.
SportsGeek is 100% legal. Fantasy sports has received an exemption from the UIGEA of 2006 that states that it is a game of skill and therefore not gambling. Please see our Official Rules for the requirements of creating teams that make certain they comply with the law.
SportsGeek has some important characteristics that make it much different from participating in a traditional fantasy football league. SportsGeek is fantasy sports with a weekly format that also has all the entrants from a particular challenge competing against each other. Other significant differences include: salary cap drafting method that allows usage of the same player pools without worry that all teams will contain the same star players, injuries are not a problem as new teams can be drafted each week and injured players can be avoided, and a person is not required to register a team each week and can enter as many or as few teams as they want into each challenge.

Yes, you can compete in the SportsGeek Free Challenge as many times as you wish. The only restriction is that if you enter the challenge multiple times in the same week each team entered must contain at least one player that is different from any of the other teams. GeekCredit prizes are awarded to the top finishers in the Free Challenge each week.
The only difference between the free challenge and the real money challenges is the entry fee that is charged. The free challenge is exactly what it sounds like, a challenge that if free to enter. Prizes for the free challenge are awarded in GeekCredits that can be used to purchase merchandise from the GeekStore. The real money challenges range from $1+0.10 to $200+15 to enter and offer real money payouts to the winners.
The challenge dates for football challenges are associated with the weeks of the football regular season. Registration for challenges will be available beginning at 8AM ET each Wednesday of the football season. Deadline for challenge registration will be 1PM ET each Sunday of the football season. A team that is entered into a challenge will also be allowed to unregister up until the earlier of either the start of any player on that team's game or until 1PM ET Sunday.
There is no limit on the amount of money you can win in a challenge. The prize pool continues to grow as more teams are registered into the challenge. The more teams that register, the higher the prize pool.
In addition to being eligible to win money from the prize pool, you will be awarded GeekCredits just for entering into real money challenges. GeekCredits can be redeemed for merchandise from the GeekStore. There is also a TopGeeks leaderboard that ranks the top players on the site based on their performace in previous challenges.
The updates to stats and scores during the challenges are made through a live data feed. Even though the data feed is highly accurate they are meant for informational purposes only. After the conclusion of all games the stats will be verified and the scores finalized.
When a team entered in either a real money or free challenge wins a prize it will be awarded after all the games for that week are over. After the completion of all games the stats will be verified and the scores finalized. This will generally occur within 24 hours of the completion of a challenge. Once the scores are finalized the prize awards will be credited to the appropriate accounts.
SportsGeek stats are received from STATS. With more than 25 years of experience in sophisticated sports data collection, processing, and distribution, STATS is the world's leading sports information, content and statistical analysis company.
Right now SportsGeek offers only fantasy football competitions. Auto racing, baseball, golf, and basketball will all be added throughout 2010. After this core group of sports has been developed we will continue adding other sports as interest from our members dictates.
You will not earn any fantasy points for players who were scheduled to play in games that are canceled. We cannot wait for the game to be made up at a later date to settle the contest. Please use our research and news sections as well as any other sources you have in order to determine the risk of a game being canceled.
Our challenge final results are determined by using the official statistical feeds from STATS. If you believe there has been an error in the final challenge results you must notify SportsGeek by email within 24 hours of the challenge completion time.
You need to create a team if you wish to enter into one of our challenges. In order for you receive a score in the challenge you must select players and create a valid team. See the Official Rules to find out what is needed to create a valid team. If you do not wish to compete in any of our challenges you are not required to create a team.
Yes, you can use the same team more than once. The only restriction on using teams is that you can only enter an individual challenge once with the exact same team. If multiple teams are entered into the same challenge each team must have at least one player that is different. The exact same team can, however, be entered into more than one different challenge.
Editing of teams is not allowed because to drop and add players would create an invalid team for a period of time. To make certain that teams are not invalidly edited we have decided to not allow such an option. It is possible, however, to unregister a team from a challenge if none of the players' games has started yet. In this manner it would be possible to unregister a team and reregister a new team with the desired changes.
Creating a team can be done in more than one way. The first way is to click on the Teams tab and then on the New Team tab. This will bring up a screen with a blank roster on the left side of the screen and the player directory on the right. Players in the directory are classified by position and can be selected by either dragging and dropping them into the appropriate roster postions or by clicking on the green + sign associated with each player. Once a valid roster is created the team can be saved by clicking the Confirm This Team tab.
A second way a team can be created is to go directly into the homepage for the specific challenge that you wish to enter. Once on the challenge homepage click the Register tab and it will bring you to a screen that asks if you want to register an existing team or create a new team. If you want to create a new team click the appropriate tab and it will take you to a screen that is the same as the one described in the paragraph above. Once a valid team is created you can enter the challenge by clicking the Confirm This Team tab and then confirming again that you wish to enter the challenge.
After challenges are made final, your team (and all other players' teams) are removed.
You will still be able to see the team you had used in the Past Challenge Results areas. Your team name and the scorecard, including the player names, stats and fantasy points are kept in a historical manner only.
Yes, others can see your team and you can also see every other team entered in any challenge. The ability to see other teams is only available after the challenge registration is closed. This is done to make sure that it isn't possible to copy another registered team.
You are only allowed to create a team when 1) there are challenges that are open for challenge registration and 2) before the challenge entry deadlines has transpired.
This is done for your own protection, so that you cannot create a team that will subsequently get erased by the system. It also allows SportsGeek to best enforce the challenge and team rules (salary cap and slot requirements) necessary for us to run the challenges safely and fairly.
Yes, you may unregister from a challenge at any time up until the earlier of either the 1PM ET Sunday registration deadline or until the official start time of any game being participated in by any member of the unregistering team. If a team is validly unregistered the entire entry fee will be credited back to the user's account.
No. In order to comply with UIGEA of 2006, all fantasy teams must consist of players from multiple games. Our software will warn you that all your players are from the same game and will not let you confirm it if this is the case.
